The Path, an AI-powered therapy and mental wellness platform co-founded by bestselling author Tony Robbins, has raised $14.3 million in seed funding led by Prime Movers Lab, with participation from Olympic champion Apolo Anton Ohno, heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder, Designer Fund, and other investors.
Previously known as Mental, The Path was co-founded by Anson Whitmer, a founding member of the Calm app who led its AI and data science team, and Tyler Sheaffer, who founded Calm’s engineering team. The company said its mission is to help users build long-term emotional resilience through personalized AI therapy tools designed for everyday life.
According to The Path, traditional mental healthcare systems often intervene only after users reach a crisis point. The company aims to change that by creating an AI platform that continuously understands users’ emotional states, psychological patterns, and personal goals to provide proactive support over time.
The platform uses multiple therapy-focused AI models trained with clinical guidance and designed to prioritize meaningful psychological progress rather than maximizing user engagement. Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, The Path says its system is built to challenge unhealthy thinking patterns, guide emotional growth, and adapt based on each user’s mental health journey.
Users can choose an AI therapist tailored to their needs, while the platform personalizes therapy programs, homework, interventions, and emotional training exercises between sessions. The company also emphasized its focus on crisis support, offering integrations with crisis hotlines and connections to licensed human therapists when needed.
The Path claims its safety-focused AI models significantly outperform general-purpose AI systems on mental health safety benchmarks, scoring 95 compared to scores around 65 for leading models from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Co-founder Tony Robbins said the company was created to close the gap between mental health struggles and access to meaningful support, calling the lack of accessible mental wellness care a growing global crisis.
Dakin Sloss said The Path stands apart from traditional AI chatbots by combining clinically informed AI systems with deeply personalized guidance focused on long-term mental wellness and psychological safety.
The company plans to use the new funding to continue expanding its AI therapy platform and scale access to personalized mental health support globally.
